The program “For Andy Warhol” plays on Pop Art’s fascination with popularity and fame. The core piece is made up of some of the most iconic pieces of classical music, which have become a kind of commodity, playing with the idea of replication, repetition, and series. The inclusion of Hanon’s exercises—archetypal, neutral, and immediately recognizable—are analogous to Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Cans or Brillo Boxes. The aim is to keep the listener relaxed and excited, but also to provide a combination of lightness and familiarity with the freshness typical of Pop Art.
